How Prudential Financial & YUPRO Placement Are Working to Build an Inclusive Workplace

SNAPSHOT

Prudential Financial has a deep and long-standing dedication to DEI. In 2020, Prudential partnered with YUPRO Placement, tapping into its 30,000+ diverse talent community to support its diversity hiring goals. Since then, YUPRO Placement has placed more than 50 contractors, apprentices, and full-time employees at the company.

Aligned in their missions to create inclusive workplaces, Prudential and YUPRO Placement are removing barriers to hire entry-level and middle-skill underrepresented talent, one placement at a time.

“Partnering with YUPRO Placement gives us another opportunity to bring diverse early talent to the firm,” said Carolina Souza, Director, Inclusive Solutions, Prudential Financial.

Through an effort co-led by Prudential’s Inclusive Solution and DEI Recruitment, the company supports more than 20 interns and apprentices a year, converted 13 alumni to full-time or contract hires, and created an internal alumni support club.

Prudential Partners with YUPRO Placement to Increase Diversity Talent Placement

Prudential was founded on the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to achieve financial security. The company offers insurance, retirement planning, and investment management services. It has a commitment to closing the financial divide through diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is embedded in the organization at all levels. With a firm belief that DEI is both a moral and business imperative, Prudential is dedicated to preparing talent for and connecting them with high-quality jobs to improve their financial wellbeing.

As a result, the Fortune 500 firm is focused on ensuring underrepresented early career talent – those at risk of being un- or underemployed – can develop the appropriate skills to pursue a dynamic career with family sustaining wages. The inability of this untapped talent pool to participate in the labor market not only negatively impacts their long-term financial viability, but also represents a significant loss of economic opportunity for the global economy.

Prudential is helping solve this global crisis via initiatives such as its recent commitment of more than $180 million to support organizations improving the economic stability and mobility of opportunity youth – people aged 15-29 worldwide who lack access to school, training, or regular jobs.

The brief

Since 2018, Prudential has had a robust early career internship program through a leading nonprofit talent developer whose interns receive free skills-based training from expert instructors before starting.

In 2020, Prudential decided to expand this early career diversity talent program with both temporary and permanent placement solutions. The Fortune 500 organization turned to YUPRO Placement, a public benefit corporation and mission-driven talent placement firm, to gain access to its 30,000+ diverse talent community and unique placement offerings.

Aligned in missions, committed to outcomes

YUPRO Placement supports Opportunity Talent – motivated and resilient individuals from traditionally untapped talent pools – in securing jobs in which they can earn equitable market wages and access economic and career mobility with employer partners that invest in a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace.

YUPRO Placement has become one of Prudential’s main talent pipelines for early career diversity talent, placing contractors, apprentices, and full-time employees at the organization. The YUPRO Placement team works closely with Prudential hiring managers to find great candidates for roles across the organization, including IT, accounting, finance, investment operations, and software development and support.

Career coaching, upskilling, and social service supports make the difference

But placement is just the beginning. As a leader in DEI, Prudential knows that Opportunity Talent face barriers beyond access to education, so removing barriers to employment through coaching and free and reduced fee social service resources can be the difference between success and failure. In addition to partnering with YUPRO Placement to offer talent fair-market wages and comprehensive benefits, Prudential invests in YUPRO Placement’s extensive career readiness and coaching; mentorship and peer support groups; ongoing upskilling opportunities; and social service support and resources. This leads to better outcomes across the board, including increased employee engagement and retention and a more robust talent pipeline.

“Partnering with YUPRO Placement gives us another opportunity to bring diverse early talent to the firm,” said Carolina Souza, Director, Inclusive Solutions, Prudential Financial.

Through an effort co-led by Prudential’s Inclusive Solution and DEI Recruitment. the company supports more than 20 interns and apprentices a year, converted 13 alumni to full-time or contract hires, and created an internal alumni support club.

Removing barriers to entry, one placement at a time

To date, YUPRO Placement has placed more than 50 contractors, apprentices, and full-time employees at Prudential Financial. Through the partnership, Prudential has gained access to a strong pipeline of diverse, motivated talent that is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competencies that directly reflect the needs of the organization and the industries in which it operates.

Aligned in their missions to create inclusive workplaces, Prudential Financial and YUPRO Placement are removing barriers to hire entry-level talent, one placement at a time.
